What Is Honda’s Maintenance Schedule?

Every Honda vehicle has its own set of maintenance needs. To help you keep track, there is a unique Honda maintenance schedule for each model, supported by onboard technology that reminds you when it's time for service. Whether you drive a Honda Civic, Accord, Pilot, or CR-V, following the Honda Canada maintenance schedule will ensure that your car keeps running smoothly. Read on to learn how to follow Honda’s service maintenance schedule and to understand common Honda service codes like 'maintenance due soon A' and more.

Honda's Service Maintenance Schedule

Following Honda Canada’s maintenance schedule is easy. Simply follow the alerts that appear automatically on your dashboard from your Honda’s Maintenance Minder.

The Honda Maintenance Minder

The Honda Maintenance Minder is an onboard management system that monitors several variables to determine the best time to bring your Honda in for service. When your car needs attention, it will display a Honda Maintenance Minder code on your dashboard. Usually you'll see a "service due soon" message, along with the letter "A" or "B" to show the type of service needed. Depending on your car's mileage, there might be additional numbers indicating further service requirements. Here is a guide to what the different Honda Maintenance Minder codes mean:

Service Due Soon / Maintenance Due Soon

This indicates that your Honda's engine oil life is at 15%, which means an engine oil replacement is due soon. Plan to bring your car in for its regular maintenance.

Service Due Now / Maintenance Due Now

This indicates that your Honda's engine oil life is at 5%, and that maintenance is due now. Bring your Honda in as soon as possible for its scheduled service.

A

Service code A indicates that only the engine oil needs to be changed. It's recommended to use Genuine Honda 0W-20 engine oil.

B or 0

Service code B or 0 means both the engine oil and the oil filter need to be changed.

1-9

The numbered service codes correspond to other maintenance tasks, such as rotating tires, replacing brakes, spark plugs, or filters, and inspecting the timing belt, water pump, and other fluids that aren’t directly monitored. For more information, you can download your particular Honda’s maintenance schedule here to see detailed descriptions of each number code.

For example, if the dashboard on your Honda Civic says ‘Maintenance Due Soon A’, this means that there is an engine oil replacement due soon on your Honda Civic, and that you only need to change your oil.

Additional Recommended Honda Maintenance

As part of your Honda service maintenance schedule, it is recommended to do the following at a minimum, even if your Maintenance Minder does not show any codes:

  • Change your engine oil once a year
  • Replace your brake fluid once every three years
  • Replace your cabin and engine air filters every 24,000 km if the vehicle is regularly driven in dusty conditions,

or in areas with visible airborne soot
  • Replace your timing belt every 100,000 km if the vehicle is regularly driven in extreme temperatures

(over 43°C or less than -30°C)

Frequently Asked Questions

When your car's oil life drops to 15%, you'll see a "maintenance due soon" message on your dashboard. This message will come with either an "A" or "B" to indicate the type of service needed. If you see this message, it's time to bring your Honda in for an oil change.

These service codes tell Honda technicians what maintenance your vehicle needs. Service code A means you need to replace the engine oil only, while service code B means you need to replace both the engine oil and the filter.

The Honda Maintenance Minder monitors several variables, including engine pressure, your vehicle's speed, temperature, and operating conditions to estimate the condition of your engine oil. When the oil life is low, it sends you alerts to get it serviced. Note that the Honda Maintenance Minder doesn’t monitor oil level or component wear directly, but will recommend inspections at regular intervals to prevent any unexpected issues.
